The Trip of a Lifetime.

I had always wanted to know more about my great grandfather Johan Baptist Sockler. Where he came from. Who his parents were and on and on and on.  My dream finally came true in a small village named Eutingen,Germany and wonderful families named Schaupp and Saier

The Catholic Parish Church of our ancestors Mel and I I am told that this church was started in the 1300's.  There used to be a school next to the church. The church  is Very Beautiful.

Willi led us up a steep circular stairway to the top of the church.  There we found not only the records we had come to see but the beautiful cabinet on the left.  It held the formal robes of the Priests.  The cabinet and robes went back hundred's of years

Willi showed us these

Priceless records.

On the Left

are recorded  the names of  men from Eutingen who died in the Napoleonic War and includes where they were killed and in what year

To the right: Recorded here are the names of the men from Eutingen who died in WW1

As soon as I heard of Thomas's visit in Eutingen I knew I had to go there.  Mr. Schuapp met us at the train station, drove us to an Inn where we met his wife and daughter. We spent all the next day walking around the village and seeing the church records.  Mr.  Schaupp had already made copies of all the records I needed.

The most wonderful part of my visit to Eutingen was getting acquainted with Mr. Schaupp and his family.  I have seldom seen such great hospitality.  And wonderful food.  I hope someday to revisit the The Schaupps and Eutingen.  I will never forget either!           Thanks and all my love to all of you.
